Professor X is not alive in a computer…he transfered his mind into that body Moira was with in the video near the beginning of the movie.

Ok, that makes sense, see i was so busy seeing what they were doing wrong i didn’t see what they did correctly, that was a good set-up and pay-off.

Thanks ike. I’m starting to appreciate this film a little more now.

I actually re-read parts of the Dark Phoenix Saga and watch the cartoon and actually the Professor does make it worse by trying to bind the Phoenix, however, he never blames others for what he knows deep down is his fault. I do wish that Jean ended up killing herself instead of Wolverine, it seems more endearing- not endearing, mmmm…. no it is more endearing, for Jean to do it than Wolverine. Because in the comic and in the cartoon he always can’t do it because Jean comes out and shows her old self once in a while. Why didn’t they put this in the movie though, i think it would have been more emotionally involved if it had. It boggles my mind when i think they took a great opportunity and destroyed it… IMO. Any other thoughts?

    Great review.

I saw X3 in theaters and it was the most disappointing film I’ve ever seen. I loved Singer’s 1st two and this last one was just a disgrace. Here’s my long rant from awhile back…

I actually went as far as to make my own ‘cut’ of the film using deleted and extended scenes from my friends copy of the DVD. It’s better than Ratner’s version, but is still a crap movie.

Good effort in writing your comics but ultimately your beef is with how the movies digress froms the comics and become their own. If you listen to the commentary you understand that the main reason cyclops was killed off so quickly was because James Marsden wanted out ASAP because he was filming Superman Returns — a FAR SUPERIOR film by the X-Men Pope, Bryan Singer (cough–ahem-cough).

I would also like to remind you that Cyclops was in like 20 minutes f X-Men 2, half of it spent in an emotionless zombie controll state. On that note X-Men 2 might as well been called Wolverine part 2 since most of the plot revolved on around him…again.

At least X-Men 3 lived up to its title showing you the world of mutants both good and bad with diverse powers which was something very limited to in the first 2 films.

As far as continuity problems between Part 3 and 1 and 2, Part 2 had a different composer who ditched the modern techno-classical themes properly developed in the first film. Cerebro looked nothing like it did in part one, even though its use was a recycled tool from part one.

Honestly I don’t know why people favored part 2 when it was such a let down from part one. Part 3 took the film in a new and better direction given more screen time to supporting characters and giving us shocking deaths.

And before your respond, just carefully consider my opinion and remember that the movie can exist in its own world and doesn’t need to be a carbon copy of the comics.

Hahaha. Okay, i am laughing right now because i like the fact that you came and took time to stick up for X3, while actually doing a good job. Something which is uncommon for people who enjoy this movie. So i applaud you, i’m very happy right now. However, i will have to get back to you and respond when i have more time. Finally, a reasonable person defending this ‘movie’.

The one thing I still will never understand is why Rogue is even in the danger room in the first place. What is she hoping to achieve? Is this Professor X’s idea of a joke?

Ok, i’ve got some time now.

DarkKnight24 (I will comment in the order i received them),

Thank you for reading, you have my deepest gratitude.

First of all, i am not writing a comic, i never said that at all in my post. What i did say is that i would write a replacement X3 script, in hopes that someone who was heartbroken by the produced X3 can have some amount of hope in people again. Because, quite very honestly, after seeing this movie, i had a hard time believing people who enjoyed it. I started losing my hope in people and their observational skills that it literally, made me nauseous.

My beef is not with “how the movies digress from the comics and become their own”. In fact, nothing can be farther from the truth in that statement. If what you were saying were true, i would have ‘beef’ with the other two as well. Being a filmmaker myself who has adapted things from one medium to another, i know the process of transference. Bryan Singer did as well, which is why i love his movies. Bret Ratner did not know this process, nor did it look as if he tried to understand it. Singer set up the rules and regulations of the reality of the X-Men series movies, if Ratner was a good director, he would have abode by these rules. But, unfortunately, he’s not and he didn’t.

Why would i listen to the commentary to X3, i would never rent this movie, nor would i think about owning it. I would feel as cheaply as this movie was made. (by ‘cheaply’ i don’t mean money) However, i did know James Marsden wanted out ASAP, i would too if i read the script. This movie was detrimental to society and proves that studio executives can make shitty movies and have it still be profitable. IMO, by defending this movie, you stick up for the making of crap cinema.

You must have something stuck in your throat because i obviously have respect for Bryan Singer by my distaste for the third installation which he was absent from. You make it seem as though i have never heard of this ‘Superman Returns’. As far as my opinion of Superman Returns, i thought it was superior to X3, however, i also believe a home made movie directed by a 10 year old is superior and handled with more care. So, i’m not sure i see your point here. Sorry.

Cyclops in my opinion, didn’t NEED to be in that much of X1 or X2, it’s just that simple. If Singer did this script. I would have disliked it as well. Cyclops needed to be in X3 more because the one of the chosen plot lines, the Dark Phoenix Saga. I do agree that Wolverine got a lot of screen time in the second one, however, the plot in the first one revolved around Rogue and mutant oppression. What was X3 about? Which is redundant?

Okay, that’s fair that you want to see more ‘bad’ mutants, but they come out in droves in this movie, they make no sense. “lived up” you say? I would never say that about this movie.

Continuity has nothing to do with composers, that doesn’t effect the world in which the characters live and breathe. Cerebro looking nothing like it did in part one, again, is not what i would consider a continuity problem. If cerebro suddenly grew wings and flew like an eagle while the characters say nothing about this certain change, yes, this is continuity problem. I was pretty fair calling Ratner and the writers out on these problems and wasn’t as meticulous as i could have been.

People favored part 2 because they liked the interaction between humans and mutants, like the soldier attack on the school. It introduced subtly, characters that fans would know, while not going out of its way to introduce them. Part 3 didn’t introduce one new character tactfully, it was done as if these ‘bad guys’ all think alike, that no ‘bad guy’ in this world is in it for their own purpose, only Magnetos. Shocking deaths? I wouldn’t say that, why? Because they are not ’shocking’ if the director doesn’t even give a shit whether they die or not. To me, what was more shocking was the way in which this movie handled characters, i was thoroughly disappointed. It did take the series in a new direction, instead of going forward, it went miles back. Introducing supporting characters for the sake of introducing supporting characters? Since when did this make a good movie? There wasn’t any substance for these characters to support.

I did carefully consider your opinion, obviously, you didn’t consider mine. I do say in my post that i thought they could have done a better job of adapting the stories and characters to X3; what post did you read? The last thing i want is a carbon copy of the comic, if i wanted a carbon copy then how would i like the first two? What i want is a better adapted movie, one that had planning and forethought. Adaptation from comics to celluloid, doesn’t mean they get to ditch personality, gestures, passion, and motivations for those certain characters. To me, the supporting characters in this film, were terribly faded and crumpled carbon copies of the comic. They resembled a faint image of who or what those characters stand for.

My suggestion for you, Dark Knight, is to study up on metaphor and meaning. Because to me it seems like you are missing a very important part of what these stories and characters are truly about.

I hope you get to read my response to you and i hope to see you around again.
